Top 5 bathroom trends to watch
11 October 2018
Over the last decade or so, the bathroom has become more of a personal sanctuary, than just a place to bathe and clean your teeth. It’s also become a reflection of your personal style, so bathroom trends are more important than ever before. If you’re building a new home, you need to strike a balance between the latest trends and a practical space that will stand the test of time. Here are five of the latest bathroom trends that will help you create a stylish bathroom space you’ll love.
1. Go for gold
Forget your grandparents’ bathroom with outdated brass fittings. These new generation gold fixtures can add glamour to any bathroom. Choose from taps, spouts, shower heads, towel rails, plus much more. You can also add gold accessories, light fittings and mirrors for a truly luxe look. Gold perfectly complements the cooler grey colour palettes that are very popular right now, adding depth, dimension and luxury to any bathroom.
2. Add organic elements
Neutral bathroom colours like white, grey and warm browns are still very much in style, with the addition of some organic elements. An organic feel works well in the bathroom, as we associate it with relaxation and well-being, which helps create a spa-like atmosphere at home. Incorporate features like natural stone, vintage-style fixtures and reclaimed wood. Bring the outdoors inside with lush, green plants, or add a skylight to let plenty of natural sunlight in. Alternatively, you could add a botanical feel by creating a leaf pattern from mosaic tiles. If you don’t have a big budget, go for nature-inspired accessories like woven baskets and scented candles to create your very own chill-out zone.
3. Introduce darker tones
Darker colour palettes in the kitchen have been increasing in popularity, especially when it comes to appliances and cabinetry. And this trend is also big in the bathroom. In a space where neutral whites and light timber colours usually prevail, darker shades are more on trend than ever. This includes dark floor tiles, cabinetry, matte black fixtures and hardware, and even dark accent walls. It’s a statement look that can work beautifully in your new bathroom, if executed well.
4. Be bold
In the contemporary neutral bathroom, an accent wall can create a fabulous focal point that really sets the mood. For extra impact, consider installing patterned floor tiles. It’s a cost-effective way to make any space pop. But if you like things a little more subtle and natural, you may prefer natural stone in a textured or stacked pattern to highlight the shower or the space behind the vanity. Tiles in interesting shapes (like hexagons or scales) can also add interest to your bathroom.
5. Hi-tech is hip
For years, the bathroom has been largely ignored when it comes to technology, but lately we are seeing a surge in bathroom technology and ‘smart’ accessories like hi-tech toilets and automatic taps. You can choose from toilet options like seat warmers, automatic lid openers, slow close features, adjustable air dryers and built-in deodorisers. You can even get wireless music players that automatically turn on when the lid opens, and turn off when the lid closes. And it’s not just the toilet that’s going hi-tech. You can now install a smart shower that automatically knows your preferred temperature and plays your favourite songs. Or motion-sensitive taps that turn on automatically when you put your hands under them. The choices are endless!
Put your own spin on these new trends to create a unique bathroom space that truly reflects your personal style.
